Baker gained widespread recognition after a viral TikTok video showed him, still wearing his graduation medals, immediately helping his busy co-workers after his ceremony. The video was captured by Maria Mendoza, who was inspired by Baker’s actions and initially created a GoFundMe with a goal of $6,000 to help fund his college education. That act of kindness quickly grew, with Mendoza ultimately raising over $184,000 for Baker.

“We wanted to recognize you for everything that you have done, always jumping in to help out your team,” said Reid Neumann, Director of Marketing for GPS Hospitality, during the presentation. “On behalf of Burger King and the Burger King Foundation, we award Mykale Baker a $10,000 scholarship.”

Baker’s commitment has been highlighted in numerous social media videos and shared by national news outlets.

The Burger King Foundation recently awarded scholarships to 116 students. Recipients are selected from communities where GPS Hospitality restaurants are located. Since 2013, GPS Hospitality has supported more than 2,000 scholars, contributing nearly $2.2 million to help employees and high school seniors pursue their educational goals.
