Netflix Orders Tina Fey Comedy Series ‘The Four Seasons’

LOS ANGELES — Netflix has ordered an eight-episode comedy series The Four Seasons, starring and co-created by Tina Fey. The series is an adaptation of the 1981 film of the same name, written and directed by Alan Alda.

Fey is developing the project alongside Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, with whom she has a long-standing creative history. The trio previously collaborated on NBC’s 30 Rock, where Fisher joined in the final season and Fey and Wigfield won an Emmy for writing the series finale. Alda also appeared as a recurring guest on the show.

“We were able to assemble a cast of beloved comedy actors that could create the same warm, human vibe of the original,” Fey said in a statement.

The series is produced by Universal Television and based on the original Universal Pictures film, which starred Alda and Carol Burnett and was produced by Martin Bregman. Production on the new adaptation is set to begin later this year.

Fey, Netflix, and Universal Television previously found success with the Emmy-nominated Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which ran for four seasons and included an interactive movie. Fey also produces Girls5eva, created by Meredith Scardino, which debuts its third season on Netflix on March 14.

Fisher and Wigfield bring their own track records of success to The Four Seasons. Fisher co-created Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, which ran for four seasons, while Wigfield created Great News and Saved by the Bell, both of which had multi-season runs.

Executive producers for The Four Seasons include Fey, Fisher, Wigfield, David Miner, Eric Gurian, and Jeff Richmond. Alda and Marissa Bregman will serve as producers. The series will be written by Fey, Fisher, and Wigfield, with Universal Television’s Little Stranger, Inc. overseeing production.
