French Stewart Delivers a Career-Best Performance in ‘Bob Trevino Likes It’

French Stewart has long been known for his sharp comedic timing and eccentric roles, particularly as Harry Solomon in 3rd Rock from the Sun. But in Bob Trevino Likes It, he delivers something entirely different—something raw, deeply human, and undeniably moving.

During a recent screening at The Tara Theatre in Atlanta, Stewart spoke about how this film offered him a rare opportunity to stretch himself as an actor. “Tracy Layman, who wrote and directed it, was the guiding light for this,” he shared. “She fought for me to play Bob Trevino, and I knew right away this was something special.”

His portrayal of Bob—a deeply flawed, often exasperating father—resonates because Stewart refuses to reduce him to a one-note antagonist. “We talked about making sure he wasn’t just a full-on jerk,” he explained. “Bob sees himself as the hero of his own story. By the end, he truly believes people will recognize how thankless his daughter has been and come around.”

Audiences certainly came around—to both Stewart’s performance and the film’s universal themes. Bob Trevino Likes It has sparked emotional reactions at every screening, whether in Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Nashville, or Georgia. “One thing I’ve learned from this experience,” Stewart reflected, “is just how many people have narcissistic parents. There’s no shortage of these stories.”

Despite his history in fast-paced sitcoms, Stewart found independent filmmaking required a similar skill set. “It doesn’t matter how much money or time you have; you make it work,” he said. “I had faith it was going to get done, and a lot of that was because of Tracy pushing it through.”

From laughter to tears, Bob Trevino Likes It takes viewers on a journey, and Stewart’s standout performance is at its heart. As one audience member at The Tara Theatre put it, “This is career-best work.”

And with a new project in the works through his Atlanta-based production company, it’s clear Stewart is only getting started.
