LOS ANGELES — The Duffer brothers say the upcoming fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be the most intense and emotional yet. Speaking at the Next on Netflix 2024 event, co-creator Ross Duffer said, “This is our biggest and most ambitious season yet.” His brother and fellow co-creator, Matt Duffer, added, “At the same time, we think it’s our most personal story. It was super intense and emotional to film — for us and for our actors.”
As fans await the final season of the hit Netflix series, anticipation is growing over what surprises and emotional moments the Duffer brothers have in store for Hawkins and the Upside Down.

Beyond Stranger Things, the Duffers are working on two new shows set to debut in 2026: The Boroughs and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, both of which they are executive producing. Speaking about their continued partnership with Netflix, Ross Duffer expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. “We’re going to be hanging around at Netflix, which has been our home for the past 10 years,” he said. “We couldn’t ask for better partners. If you want to tell original stories like we do, this is really the place to be.”
In addition to the final season, Stranger Things fans have more to look forward to with a new collaboration between Netflix and Jazwares, one of the world’s leading toy companies. The partnership marks the first global master licensing agreement for Netflix and the Stranger Things franchise. The upcoming Jazwares product collection will feature items inspired by the show’s beloved characters and themes from both Stranger Things 5 and an animated spinoff series currently in development.
With the final season promising to be the most ambitious yet and a growing universe of spin-offs and merchandise, Stranger Things is cementing its legacy as one of Netflix’s most iconic franchises.
