Actor, singer, and dancer Brian Jordan Jr., best known as Maurice Webb on BET’s hit series Sistas, has dropped a project that turns sound into storytelling: RILEY: The Mixtape, out October 17. The 15-track collection is a bold and unapologetically Black love letter to the HBCU experience, serving as an audio prelude to RILEY: The Musical, the stage work currently in development.

A Soundtrack of Soul, Swagger and Southern Storytelling

Written, recorded, and executive produced entirely by Brian Jordan Jr., RILEY: The Mixtape captures the heartbeat of HBCU life through joy, swagger, and lived truth. It’s music that moves from the band room to the dorm quad, blending gospel roots, hip hop percussion, and Broadway-level theatricality.

The mixtape features an eclectic roster of collaborators including Big Freedia, Amber Iman, Natalie Weiss, Blaq N Mild, Loren Lott, Olivia Lux, Tina Fears, Jessica Betts, Bella Coppola, Victor Jackson, Rajané Katurah, Muhammad Ayers, Dri Jack, The Mike Foster Project, Psiryn and Tarriona “Tank” Ball of Tank and the Bangas, each helping to bring the world of RILEY to life.

From Mixtape to Musical

The upcoming stage production, RILEY: The Musical, is described as a bold, hilarious, and unapologetically Black love letter to the HBCU experience. Through the lens of a young Black man navigating Greek life, band culture, student politics, and first love, the show explores the beauty and complexity of Black identity.

Currently in development, RILEY is seeking partners, sponsors, and investors who believe in culturally grounded, commercially viable storytelling that centers Black life with power, joy, and depth. Fans can follow the journey with #RileyTheMusical and #HBCUsical.
